ISO 14064

ISO 14064 is an international standard that outlines principles and requirements for quantifying, monitoring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. It provides a framework for carbon footprint accounting at the organizational level and is widely used for corporate sustainability reporting.

Who is ISO 14064 for?

ISO 14064 is intended for companies, public institutions, and other organizations that want to calculate and report their total GHG emissions (scope 1, 2, and 3). It is used by sustainability teams, carbon managers, and consultants to support accurately measure a company's emissions and comply with regulatory requirements.

Why was ISO 14064 introduced?

ISO 14064 was created to provide a globally recognized, standardized approach to measuring and managing carbon emissions. Before its introduction, GHG reporting varied widely, making it difficult to compare results or track progress over time. The standard helps ensure transparency, consistency, and credibility in both mandatory and voluntary emissions reporting.

How is ISO 14064 different from ISO 14083?

ISO 14064 provides a framework to account for all GHG emissions at the organizational level, including those from logistics (which can be calculated using ISO 14083 as input for Scope 3).

ISO 14083 provides a consistent method to measure and allocate emissions at the shipment or logistics activity level.

Both ISO 14083 and ISO 14064 can be used in parallel to help companies accurately measure their transport emissions, as well as emissions from their other activities.
